Park Rest Journal — October 2026 · When to go

If you're planning a trip to North Cyprus (KKTC) and watching your budget, October is a month with two faces: the weather still feels like summer, but prices have already shifted — up for some things, not yet for others. Here's what gets cheaper this month, and what's worth waiting for until winter.

Getting there

Flights run via Istanbul, Antalya or Ankara to Ercan Airport (ECN) with Pegasus and AJet, with the Istanbul leg taking 1 hour 35 minutes. As of September 2026, the lowest fares hold from November through March, while peak July–August prices run 40–60% higher. October sits in between: fares are already below summer levels but haven't hit the winter low yet. KIBHAS shuttles run from the airport to Nicosia (Lefkoşa), Kyrenia (Girne) and Famagusta (Gazimağusa) every 1–2 hours, taking 50–60 minutes, with tickets from 350 TL.

What it costs

Car hire is the one letdown in October: most rental firms (Pacific, A-One) still charge high-season rates — £27–30 a day for an economy car like a Suzuki Swift or Nissan Note, versus £18–20 in winter. Prices drop from 1 November, so if your dates are flexible, the difference is worth chasing. Accommodation works the other way round: short-term 1+1 apartment rentals in Iskele and Kyrenia are already 15–20% below the summer peak in October, though still some way off the 40–50% winter discounts you'll see from December to February.

In October, accommodation and some flights get cheaper, but car hire is still at summer rates.

Roads on the island are free, with no toll sections, but parking at Ercan Airport and in central Kyrenia will cost 50–100 TL an hour — most out-of-town sights have free parking. Driving is on the left, rental cars carry red plates, and you can't take them through the checkpoints into the south of the island — insurance doesn't cover it there.

  • Book a car early and compare Pacific and A-One — October is still high season for hire rates.
  • If your dates are flexible, push the trip to the first week of November, when car hire gets cheaper.
  • Watch for last-minute discounts on stays in Iskele and Kyrenia — bookings are slower in autumn.
  • In central Kyrenia, look for free parking away from the harbour rather than near it.
