Dear readers, September is the most comfortable month for a seaside trip to Northern Cyprus: around 32°C by day in Kyrenia (Girne), 18–23°C at night, a sea holding at 27°C and staying warmer than the air until the end of autumn, and just two days of rain in the whole month. The school holidays are over, the beaches and the Girne harbour have thinned out, and sunbeds and boats can be booked without a fight for space.
In the gardens this is when the grapes and the first carob are picked, the pomegranates and figs ripen, and the olives are only starting to darken; the new season's oil arrives in October and November. In Girne the town festival Fest26 runs until 11 October with concerts in the amphitheatre, and on 30 September the 25th olive festival opens in Zeytinlik.
