September in Northern Cyprus is a swimming month without the summer heat or the queues: around 32°C by day in Kyrenia (Girne), 18–23°C at night, a sea at 27°C, rain on two days a month and ten hours of sunshine a day (as of September 2026). Weather and water
By the end of the month daytime temperatures ease to 28–30°C, but the sea cools slowly: off Kyrenia it is still 25°C in October and 21–22°C in November, which means the water stays warmer than the air until the end of autumn. Humidity in September is moderate and swimming is comfortable from morning to evening. The rains arrive in October, with five wet days and 33 mm for the month, and in November six days and 48 mm.
What's open
The beach clubs, the boats from Girne harbour and the mountain castles keep summer hours: St Hilarion Castle is open daily 09:00–18:30, last entry 16:30, tickets 150 TL (as of summer 2026). The turtle beach at Alagadi is closed at night until 31 October, from 20:00 to 08:00. In Girne the Fest26 festival runs until 11 October with concerts in the amphitheatre, and from 30 September to 4 October there is the olive festival in Zeytinlik.
Who it suits
September works for families with pre-school children, for older travellers who find July's 35°C hard going, and for anyone who wants to combine the sea with walking in the hills: the Beşparmak (Five Finger) trails are walkable in September in the morning and towards evening. The harvest is on September's side too: grapes, pomegranates and figs at the markets, and the carob picking starting in the villages.

October is still a swimming month, especially the first half, but the evenings call for a jumper and beach club opening hours are worth checking before you go. November is between seasons: 21°C by day, rain about once a week, a sea at 21°C, but it is the time of fresh olive oil. In winter few people swim, but the mountains and the old towns of Kyrenia and Famagusta (Gazimağusa) stand empty and green.
- Book seaside accommodation for the first half of September early: local families are still finishing the season.
- Plan castle climbs and trail walks for before 10am or after 16:00.
- Pack a light jumper for evenings after 20 September, and a rain jacket if you are coming in October.
