In September the sea off Northern Cyprus is 27°C and the beaches finally empty out, so the question of where to swim, a club with sunbeds or a wild cove, can be settled calmly, without racing for a spot. Below: what the Kyrenia (Girne), Famagusta (Gazimağusa) and Iskele coasts offer, what a sunbed costs and where to take children.
With sunbeds near Kyrenia
Escape Beach, 9 km west of Kyrenia just before Alsancak: entry 800 TL with sunbed and parasol, children under 10 free (as of late 2024), showers, cabins, a restaurant, kayaks and water-skiing, open until 19:00–23:00; you can get there on the Girne–Alsancak dolmuş. The municipal beaches are cheaper: Kervansaray, with showers and a café, sunbed 70 TL; the public beach at Karaoğlanoğlu, 100 TL; Diana Beach east of town, 350 TL; the Riva and Ülfet clubs, 700–1,000 TL entry (undated figures from Cyprus FAQ, so check on the spot).
Wild coves
Camelot, west of Kyrenia, is a free cove with no sunbeds and just a café nearby. Alagadi, 15–20 minutes to the east, is the turtle beach: free entry, no sunbeds, but a fish restaurant, a café and toilets; until 31 October it is closed from 20:00 to 08:00, and there is no shade on the sand. Golden Beach on the Karpaz is five kilometres of dunes without a single building, and only worth it as a whole-day trip.
With children
Glapsides, 5.4 km from Famagusta: municipal, free entry, sunbed 100 TL (summer 2025), sand, shallow entry and lifeguards in season. Long Beach in Iskele is three kilometres of sand, free entry, sunbed about 100 TL, showers, cabins, playgrounds, a promenade with a cycle path and the Cem Dana funfair within walking distance. Both beaches shelve gently with no sudden drops.
For quiet, Camelot and Alagadi; with children, Glapsides and Long Beach.
September details: the beach clubs near Kyrenia keep summer hours to the end of the month, but on weekdays after 17:00 the sunbeds are often already free. Lifeguards on Famagusta's municipal beaches work to a seasonal rota and there are none at the wild coves, so with children choose an organised beach.
- Get to Alagadi before 18:00 and do not push a parasol into the sand: the beach closes at night for the turtles.
- At Escape bring children under 10, who get in free, but do not expect to bring your own food in.
- At Long Beach set up nearer the promenade: showers, cabins and playgrounds are close by.
- At Golden Beach bring water and food for the whole day; there are no shops by the dunes.
